The Specialized High Schools of New York City are publicly-funded institutions for gifted and talented students. Admission to eight of the Specialized High Schools is solely determined by the score attained on the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT). A student must be a resident of New York City and a current eighth grade or first-time ninth grade applicant for the Specialized High Schools to sit for the SHSAT. The SHSAT is composed of multiple choice and grid-in questions that test a student’s English language arts and mathematical skills. The English Language Arts section has 57 multiple choice questions. The Mathematics section has five grid-in and 52 multiple choice questions. A student has 180 minutes to answer all questions on the test.
The Bright Kids™ Practice Test for the SHSAT can help a student become accustomed to the types of questions found on the actual exam. This book includes one full practice test, an answer key, in-depth answer explanations for each question on the practice test, an SHSAT mathematics review section, and numerous strategies that a student can implement on the actual exam.
